While singer-songwriter Chris Ho can seem mercurial at times, there is an undeniably deep feeling of hope and perseverance that speaks through his fervent melodies. His is the kind of voice that can captivate a room into quiet reflection. There is as much power behind it as restraint. It is this heart-on-sleeve intensity that drives him to not so much create but capture the bittersweet nature of love, loss, hope, and growth.
Born in British Columbia in 1989, Chris grew up just outside of Vancouver and spent much of his youth teaching himself to sing and play the guitar. He became obsessed with the cathartic process of writing and recording, heavily influenced by artists such as Ben Gibbard, Nick Drake, Conor Oberst, Feist, and Bob Dylan. Most of his songs are unreleased and were written in Victoria where he completed his undergraduate studies in English Lit at UVic. Since that time however he has independently released an EP (Answers, 2011), a debut album (City Of Dust, 2012), and, following a hiatus, a sophomore album (Places You’ve Been, 2017). He has toured Canada for both of his albums but also by rail, hired to perform on board VIA Rail’s passenger train from Vancouver to Toronto on multiple occasions. Likened in style to respected artists such as Dan Mangan, Neil Young and Gordon Lightfoot (CBC Radio 1/3, CBC on the Coast), ChrisHo’s soulful songs have been aired on indie radio stations across Canada, including CBC Radio.
